Nike and Ja Morant are looking to ~~retool~~ reset after a setback-filled season limited the fifth-year star to a mere 9 games. Enter the Nike Ja 2: a lightweight low-top hitting store shelves today.

Fans of the Nike Ja 1 will find more of the same in this second incarnation: forefoot zoom air, a low cut with a raised sidewall, and a relatively modest price, now $120.

Nike’s partnership with Ja Morant took on an elevated importance following the company’s messy breakup with Kyrie Irving. Morant quickly became a polarizing figure in his own right, however, after posing with a gun on a pair of social media videos that resulted in 8 and 25 game suspensions for “conduct detrimental to the league.” While some commentators criticized the Grizzlies’ star for setting a negative example, others questioned the league’s decision to single out Ja even as it willingly partnered with the game “Fortnite,” which allows young players to wield a virtual arsenal that includes handguns, shotguns, assault rifles, and even grenade launchers. Due to suspension, Morant debuted his signature shoe on court for the Grizzlies’ Christmas Day game against Golden State, but his season ended just two weeks later – well before the Ja 1’s April 2023 release.

Nike is undoubtedly hoping for a much smoother rollout this year, which began with the “Preheat” colorway that just released at FootLocker.com.

The “Purple Sky” version (pictured above) will be available first on the SNKRS app, with a wider release to follow alongside an apparel collection on October 8th.

Yes they are. Ordered my Kobe ix low halos from them and a few other things this year. Only gripe is that they send shoes in a bag and not double boxed.

That upper design is just downright lazy. They HAVE TO STOP slapping a huge swoosh on the side of these sig shoes. When you do that you put yourself in to a box creatively and you're forcing everything else around it. These are a perfect example of that. Remember in the 90's/early 2000s when they let the design do the talking and not the swoosh? When you saw something on someone's feet and you didn't know they were nikes but you knew they were nikes?

The big swoosh isn’t even an issue. Kobe’s did that for the majority of sigs. The problem is trying to make sigs like they’re inspired by someone else’s sig, instead of their own. You have these and Sabrina 2s with design elements of a Kobe 5.

Although I agree with that 100%, as someone who has worked in the field of industrial design for quite some time, I have an enormous problem with the huge swoosh. There is no beauty in using that as a template for every single one of your sig shoes. The Sabrina line has undoubtedly taken huge cues from the Kobe line but thus far it has seemed to work. This sneaker here is just a terrible attempt.

It was disappointing they didn't make any Grizzlies colors with the Ja 1 because navy blue and sky blue are appealing shades of blue.

I'm hoping they'll make a pair with matching Grizzlies colors with this one.

Tatum ones were terrible. 3 design wise look terrible. 2s aren’t bad but lack in colorways. Lukas been the best out of JB brand. I’ve enjoyed the Book 1’s. I like the Ja 1s. Ant 2 samples that are floating around everywhere are a huge step down from the one.

Got to play in and weight train these a few hours ago. They’re really good on court. Very comfortable and sleek. Break in time was minimal.

Overall I believe these will be a hit amongst players of all levels.
