Who says innovation is dead?

Sneaker cushioning systems are all about absorbing impact, yet none have exerted a greater impact than Nike Air when it debuted in in 1979. Though many permutations have appeared since, the technology essentially consists of pressurized gas trapped in a plastic bag.  In 1997, two patents related to Nike Air expired, opening the door for competitors to put their own spin on the technology.  In 1997, Reebok released running and basketball shoes utilizing a system it called DMX cushioning: a series of interconnected chambers between which a pressurized gas, akin to Nike Air, could flow underfoot.  The year 2000 saw the release of Nike Shox, a long-developed cushioning technology utilizing hollow polyurethane foam columns, that the company marketed as its next big thing, and perhaps a step into a post-Air future.

Fast forward to 2024, and all that’s old is new again.  Nike’s recently revealed Air Max DN features the company’s latest cushioning system, Dynamic Air, within which pressurized gas passes between two pairs of interconnected chambers.

Nike pressurized each pair of tubes differently, setting the rearmost two at 15 PSI and the preceding pair at 5 PSI.  The brand claims this configuration provides a “seamless” heel-to-toe transition.

Is Dynamic Air a revolutionary breakthrough, an incremental upgrade, or merely a retreading of Nike’s old glory days?

You’ll be able to try it out for yourself when the Air Max DN makes its debut on March 26th.

Good looks bro … so they added 4 more of the air tubes and are calling it 8 . Nice catchy little gimmick . This will sell I think . .. now we just gotta turn around and do what we all did last year when the DNs were first teased and wait till air max day for these to release lol

The DN8s remind me of early 2000s K-Swiss way too much, at least in that first image we've seen of them. Maybe other colorways will look a lot better. Hopefully the air transfers a lot more in the 8s, too...I tried the regular DNs on, and they certainly weren't uncomfortable, but they were nothing special, and you couldn't feel any air transfer. I was hoping for a DMX-like feel.

No mate they are very different. The Teal ones have an all Black upper with Teal coloured rubber lines, the ones i have the upper has a Black to Blue fade with all Black rubber lines. The heel cup is different colours too, and the Teal ones have a grey midsole whereas the ones i just got have a Black midsole. Like i said, totally different 🙂

So this is a totally different colorway from
Both of those you mentioned just now ? There are SO many fire colorways of this shoe lol a lot of them are very similar too I’ve noticed

Surprised these haven’t been marked down yet. A FSR is still available. I’m not paying $235 for them, but I definitely want them!

They’re really just throwing it in air max 96 fans faces at this point lol first they put out the air max 96 ultra lol . Then they go and do a pretty damn good retro of the 96 ii for some reason . Now they’re basically using the 96 upper for the DN8 for some strange reason … it’s like come on man for the love of God just retro the OG 96 . All we need is the green and blue ones and the black and purple and they can call it a day and move on if they really want to that badly lol

Didn't feel any air transfer like with Reebok DMX, but once they broke in a bit, the shoe became more comfortable to wear. Almost a true 1:1 fit.

I think Nike has something special here with the design though.
