[UPDATE] AUG-30-2024: New photos have emerged of the upcoming Black-Metallic 5s. Thanks to idontsellshoes/prm.cotd on IG, we get a clearer look at the 3M trim and reflective NIKE AIR on the heel.

AUG-28-2024: Today, thanks to @fk.llc (IG), we got a first glimpse of the “Reimagined” Black-Metallic Air Jordan 5s. How are they reimagined you ask? Well, in addition to the 3M tongue from the OGs, the ’25 version will have 3M piping details and white laces. The white laces are a tribute to MJ’s switching to white laces in the first round of the 1990 playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks. But traditional black lace fans needn’t worry, the upcoming retros will also come with black laces too. They drop on February 8, 2025 at select Jordan Brand retailers, both in-store and online, as well as on Nike.com for $210 USD.

Hot take: I would be fine with this leather being used on the ankle collar portion and the usual nu-durabuck for the rest of the upper for the next proper OG release.
Would allow them to imitate that leather-like sheen the collars had due to the Durabuck on the OGs.

The early samples of the '16 Metallics had a two tone upper with a collar that tried to imitate the look of the OGs by using a different, smoother texture material than the rest of the upper but the feature was scrapped on retail pairs.

Yup they come with black laces. They look better with the white laces cause at least they offset those forced white edges. Black laces make them edges stand out more.

I would’ve liked the leather option, just switch up the leather to be more like the bred reimagined leather. The bred reimagined 4s still are the best in the whole series so far.

The nubuck is dark, not ashy Larry at all...the icy sole might be a little extra blue for my taste, but I'll still be wearing them.

It's the edge of the cuts of the nubuck, I'm guessing (and from what I've heard) it's reminiscent of the OG concord's patent leather panels. Correct, def not reflective.

He's saying the edges are NOT painted or anything like that. It's the raw edges from the nubuck type of material.

It's amazing that these YouTubers can't say this. I've seen some still say it was 3M and say it was added on when they have it in hand. It made me wonder if their early pairs are real besides exposing they don't know what they're talking about.

I told y'all back on page 28 that they were using that cheap, 2011 release *** Ashford Laurence nubuck. In which I hate with a SEETHING passion. **** isn't even a soild black for real, it's more like an dark anthracite or a dark, bluish *** grey honestly.

I swear ALL these A holes had to do was use the EXACT same nubuck that was on the 2016 release and these would been an easy double, maybe even triple up release. Now, I'm contemplating on even copping one pair.

Honestly, these might even sit for a while since they release so close to the black & red 1 release. As they should because that material change alone knocked these down to a 4 out of 10, IMHO....

The crazy part about all of this, when it comes to debating, about which shoes have better materials, shape, details, in comparison to previous models. We can all take a look at the Aqua 8’s. The OG’s are actually better than any retros in my opinion. Because they have the OG version, the white piping outline on the edges on them, just like they put on these Metallic 5’s. Meanwhile, every Aqua 8 retro that we’ve gotten after the OG’s. Only have that flat all black look on the edges of them, just like the OG and previous metallic 5’s have on them.

Everybody complains about the glitter aspect of the aqua 8’s. But I’ve never heard anyone complain about, how the retros have never had the exposed white lining/edges on them. Everybody has opinions, but I personally like the reimagined 4’s Blk/Cement and metallic 5’s better than the OG’s. Because the execution was done better in my opinion. Of course y’all are going to argue me down about shape and cuts over and over. But the miner details (good leather on the 4’s, and exposed lining on the metallics) that have been added to these releases, give them more of a spark visually to me.

Simply put, the majority of us, just love the OG’s, because it was the first release that we received of that model, but it doesn’t necessarily make it the best version of that shoe in my opinion. Imagine if the metallics had exposed lining on the OG’s but never on the retros, like how they do the aqua 8’d retros. Everybody would be complaining about that specific detail on every retro release.
